mounting a macos 9.2 hfs+ volume on linux/osx

No. The Linux kernel doesn't have support for HFS+, only HFS. This has been the case since HFS+ came out, and it's been what, somewhere around 6 or 7 years? I'm doubting that it will happen.

For Mac OS X, though, the drive should mount automatically. You shouldn't have to manually mount it at all.

My friend was wondering the same thing a few weeks ago, I think he found a module or something that will let you, but he had trouble compiling it for some reason.
I did a quick search of freshmeat.net and found this if you are using KDE:

and this (its for reading and writing iPods which use HFS+) you could probably get it to work with a little playing around.

Hope that helps
