.mov problem

I have an old file created under os 9 with a Hauppauge mytv2go unit.

This .mov file is about a 1GB in size.

Having quicktime 6.3 professional, I thought I would reduce its size with MPEG4 compression.

To my surprise the file would not even open up in Quicktime Player 6.3. It starts up then closes down.

The file plays perfectly in Quicktime Player 5 and even within the multi column Finder window it plays with out a hitch.

I found a conversion program called Segue, but it reported an error of Invalid Sanmple Desc Index.

I assume the file is corrupted.

Does anyone know how to get QT 6.3 to handle it, or any program that helps.

Many Thanks

Dear Netboothy,

You can try Discreet Cleaner 6.1 for all your media conversions. It's very good and I highly recommend it.

Sorry to say, the program does cost quite a bit of money, around the £400 mark ($600).

Sorry to say, I don't know of any Freeware programs that can help.

You say that QuickTime 5 opens and plays your movie? Could you not do your coversion in that? I know that you can't use the MPEG4 codec, but in my experience, it really ain't that much different from Sorenson.

Or 're-save' the file, this might iron out the bug?

Good luck

I was going to suggest you use QT 5 to open the movie and export it as something else, like MPEG 2. Then import this new file into QT 6 and export it as MPEG 4.

I have to agree with the others, export with QT5 then bring into 6...seems the easiest and cheapest way to go.
