Hi there
First, thanks for your help on my previous problems- they were all caused by a dodgy RAM stick! After paying Apple Certified Repair bloke £85 to not fix the problem and being told it was "impossible" that RAM was the root cause and what I actually needed was a new processor/logic board costing a zillion quid- (even after I told them removing the sticks and swapping them over altered the behaviour of my machine) I went to PC World, got some new RAM (which they offered to take back if I had no joy!) stuck it in and bingo- all problems solved. Apple's response- "er... " Can I get my £85 back? "er... no."
Anyway. New problem. I have some old film stuff that I have transfered to DVD, with a view to re-cutting on FCP. I downloaded Mpeg Streamclip, then purchased Mpeg2 playback from Apple but Streamclip won't save or convert Mpeg2 stuff. It will play it, it will "fix timecode breaks". It will convert and save any other formats.
Also, Mpeg2 stuff imported into FCP or imovie looks very poor- like a TV with 200 line resolution. And presumably because of timecode breaks both FCP and i-movie will only take in a tiny portion of each file.
Playing the footage on VLC is fine, no timecode issues, as is iDVD player.
Have searched the web to no avail- everyone says it's a great program with no issues!
My spec is-
G5 PowerMac 1.6 Ghz
2 GB SD RAM
OSX 10.4.6
Quicktime 7 (with Mpeg2 playback)
FCP 4.5 HD
Streamclip 1.7
any thoughts?
Ta v much
