multitrack recording in soundbooth cs5?

i want to do multitrack recording in soundbooth cs5, but i can't figure out how to have it play back previously recorded tracks while i record a new track. all i seem able to do is to record one track after another without any reference to what has already been recorded.
once i record a track, i can add them to a multitrack, and they all play fine together, but they don't sync up because i couldn't hear what had already been recorded while i was recording the new track.
does soundbooth even allow this?
