AFAIK this is only to determine if you will keep your music manually organised or if you want it to be automatically organised (ie sorted by artist and album.)

This setting should have no effect on your sync, though YMMV of course.

Nothing to do with artist/album information. Rather it's about automatically synching or manually adding/removing songs/videos to/from iPhone (or iPod). I.e.: Right now, with automatic synching, you've either selected to have _all_ your music/video synched or to have some selected artists/playlists etc. automatically synched.

In my opinion, manually transferring media has only _one_ advantage: You can take stuff from multiple Macs and/or PCs to your iPod/iPhone. Apart from that, it's pure hassle, because you have to do everything yourself. If you have _one_ iTunes library on one computer that you tend to, then automatic synching is what you want.

Neither option deletes any songs from your iTunes library, although switching between the two will change what's on your iPod/iPhone, of course.
