MWNY iMac line change predictions!

themacko

Barking at the moon.
Well don't get too excited, these are just my *cough* wishes *cough* I mean, predictions.

$1399
800MHz PowerPC G4
256K L2 cache @ 700 MHz
128MB SDRAM
40GB Ultra ATA drive
CD-RW

$1599
800MHz PowerPC G4
256K L2 cache @ 700 MHz
256MB SDRAM
60GB Ultra ATA drive
ComboDrive

$1899
933MHz PowerPC G4
256K L2 cache @ 933 MHz
256MB SDRAM
80GB Ultra ATA drive
SuperDrive

That, coupled with an upgrade to a GeForce 4MX and I'd be a happy man, ordering a new iMac as soon as they announce it.

What do you all predict will be the changes made at MWNY in July?

Just praying for some kind of new digital hub device to buy... I want an iPod but I'm waiting to see if they're going to drop a pda...

I know... wishful thinking... but still... a PDA would be so hot.

If they don't... I'll probably try to get a Newton off of ebay.

I've got a Newton 120 I probably won't use again, now that I have a Clie. Then again, it's hard to let go of nostalgia.

The only way I'd get a new iMac is if they put a 17" TFT on it. Ooh, that'd be sweet! But that's years away, I fear.

Macko, I think they're going to have (at least the upper ones) L3 cache. The new iMacs will take over th4e procs used by the current quicksilvers, seems like it would be out of their way to eliminate it, though I know that they did this on the 733MHz proc when they made the last quicksilver revision. The iMac could be trurned into a powerhouse with DDRRAM and L3, but mabey Apple doesn't want that....

It seems that the major variable in the iMac hardware is not even in the Imac, its the hardware available to the new quicksilvers, or whaterever they're called after the case mod.:D

I think they are going to use MWNY (and an update to the towers) as an opportunity to further differentiate between the "consumer" iMac and the "pro" G4 towers... How they do this is open to debate.

Maybe the BUS/RAM upgrade only for the pro machines? a speed boost throughout both "pro" and "consumer" models.

I don't see a bigger screen on the radar - not for this incarnation of the iMac. In a couple years, sure, on whatever passes for an iMac at that time.

As for a PDA, I'd like to see something a bit more innovative from apple. I've been racking my brain about this and researching everywhere. Maybe the marriage of a few digital devices into one? Like a cellphone/pda/music player/camera:D ? Anyway, I think apple needs to turn heads with it's next "digital lifestyle" device. I hope Stevo's got something up his sleeve.

Why a bigger screen? maybe a little bigger, but higher resolution!!!

The only thing we need is resolution... not really something bigger!!! :D :D :D

Like the iBook... I like the 12" better... the 14" is ok, but it need more resolution...

;)

Uhhh. . . yes and no. I wouldn't want to look at 1280 x 1024 res on a 14" screen. That would be murder on the eyes. :p

I was wondering, how exactly does this BlueTooth wireless stuff work? Do you think Apple could release a wireless keyboard + mouse that work off BlueTooth?

itd be nice if they came out with a PDA that could run a OS X type OS... but they migth as well drop the iPod if they do that and have iTunes on the PDA.. an apple PDA would be awesome, especially with Jaguar's script-to-text abilities

My guess is that they will do this (eventually). However, I won't be the first in line to get either a bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Why? Well, do you really want to keep changing batteries for these devices? I don't know about you, but when I type, I need to be close enough to the screen to see it, not wandering about the house. Same with the mouse. Now, if I had a huge flatpanel/HD TV mounted on the wall or something, I guess I could see a use for bluetooth mice or keyboards. But still, you'd have to get up to put CDs into the tower, etc... And I know that just as a deadline was approaching, the batteries would die, I wouldn't have any handy, the stores would all be closed and I'd be fired.

Plus, the batteries in the mouse make it heavy. I can't stand pushing something tantamount to a cinder block around the desktop. :p

logitech makes a good light weight wireless mouse. but the radio frequencies interfere with some other wireless products... but it works well for gamming, which is the only good thing to do with computers at work

I'm definately not chomping at the bit for a wireless keyboard/mouse. I really don't care one way or the other, but Apple must have something planned for BlueTooth if they went through the trouble of incooperating it.

Just a thought.

Technologies that Apple has added recently:

BlueTooth

InkWell

I don't think that apple will introduce a new PDA. Howver, I'd love for them to introduce an SDK for people to produce iPod games. :D

That would rock!

BTW>The Register speculates that G4s will hit 1.5Ghz at MWNY.

I really wouldn't want a wireless mouse, because knowing my family, it would end up either in my treehouse or my refrigerator:D
