My bet with my friend

Rusher of Din
So I have a bet going with a friend of mine, as of a few days ago. He thinks that within five years Apple will not be making personal computers anymore. He thinks all their revenue is from the iPod and music and such. I think Apple will be making personal computers in five years. So there's the bet. If they still are, Chris buys me dinner and drinks at one of NYC's top restaurants. If they are not making them, dinner and drinks are on me.

I'm in with you :) People have been saying stuff like that since about 1990. There was even a MacWorld column on it :)

We can see it already...Apple is doing amazing things. Not only with the iPod and music and such, but currently: the largest, most affordable, server+rack out there. Some of the nicest quality, flatscreen, monitors. Software programs that all run well with eachother and provide a lot of people with what they need. And now: literally the fastest computer and the most affordable price.

You can't really tell but if you think about it: the next five years our elevators will have Apple symbols on them and our coffee machines will come with an built-in iTunes player.

In short: You get my vote. :D

Microsoft would keep Apple in business. Why?

Where else would they get their ideas from?

Well I do think about Microsoft in this because I think Apple stopping making personal computers would give Microsoft a monopoly. Linux is not a viable alternative. I think Mac OS is it.

You gotta wait 5 years for Dinner??? :p
And are you sure you two will still be friends after 5 years??? And if not, does he still have to buy you dinner? :D

Man I'll be in shock if Apple stops making computers - I don't see that happening...

Maybe the computers they make will no-longer be called computers but maybe some fancy new word, and the computers themselves won't be traditional computers that we know now.

Yeah....Microsoft needs Apple as its R & D department... Apple's not going to stop making computers anytime soon.

Though, how M$ manages to $%#&-up good ideas is beyond me.

Well, Steve have promised us 3x2 ghz monsters in a year, so that is One Year down. Four to go. Last time i checked apple had gained tons of marketshare in the consumer-market so it looks kind of bright.

Since it seems to be a safe bet best call in advance and see what sounds good to eat. Haha, bring your Appel along also just to get at hime for thinking such things. :D

Decado....Steve said that the 3ghz G5 will be out in a year? Not necessarily a dual processor system!

Imagine how hot that'll run? They're gonna need a new case! Perhaps this time, something that actually LOOKS good! hehe

steve have always (well for the last couple of years anyway) put the speed-demon with a twin as top of the line. it would only be hot if they overclocked it. if they only intended to overclock then they could have it out by next weekend. what takes a year is building it low energy/cool.

Omega: Why would they need a new case? Despite its ugly cheese grater looks, the G5 case is quite good at expelling heat. Don't you know how it works? It has 9 small internal fans that only come on if necessary, and individually at that. Then the air blows through the machine, sucking dust in left and right.

Hazmat: Tell your friend that Apple's revenue is 90% from computer sales and if they stopped selling computers, they'd go out of business, then suggest a nice steak house or sea food place.
