OK, here's what happened. I was downloading 10.2.1 update. I then restarted, and it would never fully restart! It stays on the screen with the Apple and the spinning circle for A LONG TIME...then the screen goes grey for like 3 minutes...then OSX starts up...but I can't move the cursor at all. WHAT IS GOING ON???

So if I needed to boot from the Jaguar CD, how do I do that? It's in the drive already...but I'm so new to macs and I don't know how to make it boot from CD.
PLEASE HELP!!!

I was able to run Norton and I had a virus. How, I don't know? But it messed up Jag so I am having to reinstall it. :(

Takes forever on my little 500mhz g3...Oh well!

If you're new to mac's you're in for a treat... you want to start up off a CD all you have to do is hold the "C" button on the keyboard while starting up.

Welcome to the world of simplicity! :D

First of all, thanks for the info, rhino. I tried shift, the apple key, etc...but never tried C! I was able to get into the Jag installation folder on the cdrom and REINSTALL...ouch. Did I back up? Of course not. And I had to perform a fresh install b/c I had a newer version of os x installed (10.2.1)...
For future reference though, how do I back up my mac? I have an external firewire drive, is there a way to just do a complete backup?

Paracord-I don't recall if it said or now. My understanding is, however, that mac virii are very rare. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

You are correct. A Mac virus is rare, but in any case you should have Norton Anti Virus installed (There is an OS X version) And set it to scan your internet download folder. You should also have your email attachment folder in the Internet Download folder. Then all your downloads - software and attachments will be scanned for viruses.

Doing a back up is easy. It just depends on if you want to do it manually or with a program.

Retrospect makes a handy program that once set up can automatically back up your important files, your System folder and any thing else you want.
