my lil' iBook hates CD-R's

my little white iBook just seems to hate any and all cd-r's that I mastered on my PC.

it just spits them out. same with just about any OTHER cd for that matter. seems to have started when I made the jump to 10.1.1. what gives!? it just tries to read it for a second, then... click/spit.

Never heard of that prob before. It can't be 10.1.1. It should give you an error message when it can't read the format. There seems to be a problem with CD I/O settings. For starters you can do the following: Start up in Single User mode (press Command(Apple)+S at startup). You'll see a lot of text scrolling down the display. Look if you see some error message involving "I/O". Also you can then enter "fsck -y" (without the quotes) to check the file system. Hope that helps.

Are you closing the CDR session on your PC?
That's the most common culprit for this sort of thing, unless you're using CD-RW's.

Does it still read 'em in OS 9?

nope, I close the sessions. good habit I picked up from a friend ;)

anyway, no errors. it just tries to read it, and click... and out it comes :( and to make matters worse, last thing I installed off CD was Freehand 10, and now, it even spits out the OS X 10.1 upgrade CD. but, I have not installed since the jump to 10.1.1. go figure.

I believe it is hardware, because it does not read in OS 9. my dual g4 has zero issues with the same cd's.

Dekatophil I'll try that. thanks for the tip man :D
