my mac won't recognise my ipod

I have just bought a secondhand fourth generation iPod (colour screen) and have successfully got it to speak to my work pc and my pc laptop at home but I can't get my mac to recognise it.

I have an eMac running OS X 10.4.11. It's a 1.25GHz PowerPC G4 with 256 MB RAM.

I have tried all the different USB ports, unplugged my USB hub, restarted and reset and nothing happens. The Mac can't see the iPod at all, not in iTunes or on the desktop or in disk utilities.

Can anyone help?

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes, and try enabling "disk use" on the iPod. The iPod is probably formated as FAT32, but that shouldn't matter.
