My T.V.

Get It, BIG MAC! ::ha::
I saw this thing calld My T.V and its kinda pricey, but could you tell me how it works, so im not wasting my money. What im thinking is that you would just plug the adapter (USB) into the computer then plug the cable into the adapter. after all of that i can just open the program (im assuming it comes with a program) and type in chanel 55 or somthing like that and I can turn on my other tv and i will see the same thing. I hope it works that way, but i dont want to ruch into bying this with out some input. Thanks in advance

The MyTV device is a basic TV tuner and video capture device for the macintosh. It has been reviewed very well and has some pretty good software, however you should realise that:

- It allows input only. You'll need a seperate way to output video signals from your mac to a TV if that's what you want to do.
- Being digital, there will be a delay of 1-3 seconds from the live signal.
- Recording programs will take up a substantial amount of hard-disk space. Very handy, though.

There are quite a few detailed reviews of the product on the various Mac sites and they all seem to be pretty positive. I have had no direct experience with the MyTV myself, though.

Well your in luck. I have it and i think its great. I bought it at the apple store. The only problem i had with it was the quality of the picture. For 200 i was thinking of a better signal. It looks ok but was hoping for better. Maybe its my KDS radius flat panel. The software is also very good and simple. Overall i would recommend it because it does alot for me.

i have one.

they are cool but i was sad to see that even though it has an audio input, you still need to send an audio signal out of mytv into another audio input on your computer to hear any sound. or you can just plug your computer speakers into mytv directly. which is what you'd have to do unless you got an iMic www.griffintechnology.com the confusion for me about the sound was dissappointing at first, but other than that i am very pleased. the recording seems choppy when you are actually in the proscess of recording, but the quality of movie you end up with is very high.

so who knows how to write an applescript to get mytv to record while i'm not home? i've been looking at EyeTV www.elgato.com just for that feature alone honestly.
