My USB ports are powering off randomly.

Ihave a 700 mhz 15" iMac LCD. On the ports in the back, I've attached my eyeTV, my Soundsticks, and my keyboard. For some reason, my eyeTV will only work if plugged into the leftmost USB port, and the Soundsticks will only work if plugged into the rightmost port. I'll be playing something in itunes, or watchint TV with iTV, and suddenly, there will be no sound. I'll try to play a song on iTunes, and it'll allow me to select the song (it shows up as the currently playing song), but the counter doesn't move (the song doesn't actually play) and the system volume turns off for all my apps. Logging back indoesn't solve it. The only two things that are are a full restart, or (the easier version) unplugging the USB cable from my eyeTV, and replugging it. When I do this, eyeTV, iTunes, and AIM all unexpectedly quit. This also happenned (only with itunes, as I didnt have eyeTV back then) on my icebook. Any idea what could be the matter? The hardware check CD shows my system as clean. What do I do?

Try reseting the PRAM.

1-Hold Keys = Option,Apple Key,P,R
2-Then start your system up.
3-Listen for 3 chimes, then let go of the keys.
4-Test it out and see if it is fixed.

Let me know if it works.
Good Luck!

I did that yesterday, so I'll be giving it a few weeks and see if it happens again. If not, great, if so, I'll be making a visit to the Apple store. Thanks:)

I had that probem, only my keboard and mouse lost contact (and power). Then my screen broke (i have an eMac), and the people at my macstore said that the USB power-thing is on the same card as the screen-thing. So hopefully it wont happen again now that they have changed the whole card (it was something wrong with the first series of eMacs).

Hope the Zapping works!
