Nasty Folder or file! Help...please!

I am having some trouble with a folder containing a load of files. When I trash the folder and goto 'Empty Trash', OSX crashes and comes up with a message saying:

"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds of press the Restart button."

This also occurs when trying to overwrite the folder.

Is there anyway I can completely remove this folder without it causing problems?

1st: Make SURE that the file you are deleting isn't a system file, or a file needed by the system.

2nd: After your sure, place the file(or folder) on the desktop, open the terminal application and type: sudo rm -rf ~/desktop/"the name of the file/folder"

3rd: Type your password & hit return

This will remove the whole folder if you use the name of the folder or the file you specified if you just use the file.

or go to www.versiontracker.com and get BatchMod to change the permissions and unlock it. but frankly i've never heard of a system crash from emptying the trash and suspect you are trying to get rid of something you shouldn't. is this a file you 'found' or one you created?

I tried that but the system crashes yet again
This is puzzling
I have traced it down to a REALbasic trial application my friend sent me. It is the actual application which wont delete.
Definately isn't a system file

What can I do? This thing just won't delete!

I had an idea! OSX and UNIX can't delete this file, but what about our trusty old OS9!

Started up in OS9, trashed the file, emptied the Trash, wooohoooo! It's gone!

Simple eh?

Don't you just love OS9!

Agreed. If you're getting a kernel panic when you try to delete something, that's very bad. Use Norton Utilities, Disk Utility, or fsck and see if anything is wrong.
