i want to build a tiny network with my two macs in order to exchange files and to share a dsl-modem. i want to use geeRoute to do the routing and i'm considering the following ethernetcard because it's cheap:
longshine LCS-8038Tx-R

it uses the following chip-set (which is crucial for compatibilty):
RTL8139

anyone who knows what card would work or if the above card works?

thanx

nope. i'm running mac osx. thanks anyways.

I've done some more research on the web and found that alot of people seem to be having trouble with the RTL8139.

so i want to trie a differnt card. but i don't know which one yet.

If you want quality check out Farallon ethernet cards. Depending on what model Mac you need it on will dictate the price.

And Farallon makes hubs. If you need a router, check out Asante'

This card should work fine under X. It is a generic realtek chipset that is used for macs and pcs. I have a couple of machines running OS X that the card works fine. I won't garantee that it will work for you though...:D

i have it (LCS-8038Tx-R) now, but os x doesn't seem to recognize it.

ifconfig doesn't show it and system preferences-> network doesn't see it either.

any ideas?
