Need help in boot up

I have successfully made a clean install of my Panther but theres a problem, everything is fine except the startup before MAC OS X loads, a folder with a MAC face blnking alternately with a question mark shows for a few seconds before loading Panther. What seems to be the problem?
 
Once you're back at the desktop, go into System Preferences and look in the Startup Disk pane to make sure your hard drive is selected as the startup disk. See if that resolves the problem.
