Need Help reinstalling OS

Hi all,
I just purchased an imac from a pawn shop with OS X. It has the OS disks and some of the software on CD.

I want to install some of my own software but Come to find out that I don't know the password set by the previous owner.

I'm getting a message telling me that the disk is locked and I need the password.

At this point I'd like to really just reinstall the OS but again I don't know the password.

How do I get around this?

If you put in a system disk and start up the computer holding down the c key it should start up off the CD. Then you should be able to do a clean install.

How much was the iMac? Is it a new one or a colored one?

It's a blue one; 500 Mhz $500.00.

Sorry if that's a bonehead question, but I don't have any manuals.
