hi, i've downloaded windows media player onto my mac. (big! mistake)... anyways, i'm trying to empty my trash and i keep getting the error message that some file or another (part of the application) is locked. i can't find those files and i can't delete it from my computer while it takes up precious space.
does anyone have any tips?
thanks

To delete stubborn files...

Open the Terminal Application (in Utilities folder) and type:

cd ~/.Trash

hit return

sudo rm -rf

put a space after the f and drag the item you want deleted to the terminal so that its path is automatically entered, then press return

give it your admin password and hit return

You can also download free files to force Trash to empty. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does . . .

Why doesn't Finder offer an Authenticate button?

I find that the Secure Empty Trash menuitem is good for forcing anything I need to trash when it refuses.

You can force the trash to empty locked items by holding down the alt/option key when you choose "Empty Trash".
