I have a DSL connection through a Westell 6100 modem connected to an Airport Express. I'd read that the modem may also be inadvertently running as a router, and that turning the modem to "bridge" mode and allowing the Airport Express to assign the IP addresses would improve the performance of bittorrent.
I had the Verizon tech support guy walk me through turning the modem to "bridge," but after that I could not get onto the internet at all--the Airport Express and the modem appeared not to be talking to each other--and had to switch it back.
