Net connection drops intermittently

Something on my system is interfering with my router big-time, and I can't figure out what.

Just replaced my older G4 with a newer, but used Dual 1.42 GHz G4. Upon hooking it up to my existing DLink router, I'm getting odd performance: my Net connection just drops out and eventually comes back (i.e., can't surf to a web page, I refresh a couple of times and then I can ... similarly, internet radio drops out, rebuffers and comes back).

I've cycled my router and cable modem off/on. Have looked at Activity Monitor and the performance is (as expected) all over the place, everywhere from 17KB rec'd second down to zero (drop out), then back again.

Was told by my ISP that I should try "reconfiguring" the router. I don't know much about this, but have tried logging into the router at 192.168.0.1 but it asks for user name/password, and I have no clue what the username/pass is to my router ... apparently it's not the same as my System name/pass.

Any ideas - thanks! (P.S. My connection dropped out 3x while typing this. A picture of Activity Monitor is attached showing the point at which the connection popped back up).

Maybe that pic wasn't very illustrative, but the dropping out continues ... there it just did it again as I'm typing. Argh.

This is not my first rodeo. What you need to understand is that networks don't just go full-on for the duration. They are, by their very nature, intermittent. If you are experiencing drop-outs of substantial duration while downloading large files from lightly loaded, high-bandwidth servers, then you may have an issue. Otherwise, your problem looks normal to me.
