I'm using 10.2.8.
I have several network "locations" set up. All of them have DNS address and domain names. This is a laptop so I take it to work and use it at home. What I am finding is that /etc/resolv.conf is not updated when I change locations. This causes the hostname look up to not work. I've tried just deleting resolv.conf but that does not work either. (I found a FAQ that says the file is not needed -- don't know if that is right or wrong but it does not work for me.)
Currently my hostname in /etc/hostconfig is still set to automatic. I could change that but I don't think that will get me anywhere.
If I create resolve.conf like it should be using the server ip addresses and domain name listed for the particular location, things work fine. So, I'm confused why it is not being updated (or why things don't work when I remove it if it is indeed not really needed in a "normally configured system" as the FAQ said.)
Thanks,
Perry
