Network Confusion

I installed OSX 10.3.5 in a Prepress production environment. All was working well. THEN, I changed the name of the computer (as it would be seen on the network). Now I can no longer connect to any of the servers. When I Go>Connect to Server>Browse>Local and double-click on the server all I get is "The alias "servername" cannot be opened, because the original could not be found."

I can go through Classic and log onto the server without a problem.

Any suggestion/workarounds would be appreciated.

Change the name back. Bad idea to change the name.

I can log onto other shares. Just not ones I connected to before the name change.

did you try to specifically define the connection like: smb://computername instead of browsing the network environment? And did you try to change the name back to see if that's the problem?

Somehow the data must have become corrupted when I changed the name of the computer while logged in under that user name.

I ended up following the lead of another user. I trashed the login and created a new one. Now everything works fine.

It would be nice to know how to correct this issue in the future.
