Network Storage

I am a fan of how windows uses network drives, where even if it disconnects from the drive and can't find it, it will let you know but will never unmount itself unless you delete it.

Is there a way to do this with a mac?

If you make an alias to the networked drive, you can have instant access to the drive even if it is disconnected, just click the alias and it re-connects.

right/control click the drive, then click "Make Alias"
