Im getting an error code 36 when i try to copy files from my pc to my new mac over a cross-over cable. Most files transfer just fine but there are a couple of stubborn ones. I also get a similar error when i copy mp3s off a cd burned on a pc. Im new to the mac sooo any help will be appreciated. i double checked the files and they arnt corrupt. so it must be a communication problem between the mac and pc. thanks

Welcome to the forum, audi (quattro?). :)
We need some more info to help you out. What os are you running on your mac and pc? And how do you transfer those files? Apple+K or browsing over the network? There are some known issues in networking between mac and pc. In such cases it seemed to be much better to setup a ftp-server and use ftp-transfer. About this mp3-CD thing:
how did you burn those CDs? Regular data cd? If so, this error shouldn't occur. Is there any special thing with those files which won't transfer fine? Something like special characters in the filename? Or even darn long filenames? Anyway, tell us a bit more about everything. ;)

ok sorry about the lack of info. mac = panther pc= xp home. im using the apple+k method to conect to the pc.so ftp is the best way to do that. also you said if the file name is weird or long it might not transfer. any software recommendations for ftp setup.

as for the mp3 cd thing they were burned as a regualr data cd on a pc. soo i figuered there would be no problem.
thanks

You have a built-in ftp server in panther. I believe it is not very good, but probably easy to set up. If you want to run the ftp server on your pc, check out versiontracker.com for freeware ftp servers.
Safari has a built-in ftp-client mounting those volumes. Anyway, there is a wonderful beta tool called 'fugu' which is the best ftp/sftp... tool I have ever seen. Also check on versiontracker.com
