I have a powerbook g4 15" a PC and a Dlink DL-624 router. the pc is hardwired to the router and gets internet fine. The PB is wirelessly connected to the router. The aairport has a little green dot next to it and says it is connected, but when i go to internet connect, it does not even detect the network. When i go to Safari, it says I am not connected to the internet. I know the Airport is picking up a signal because it tells me the SSID.

Make sure your router is using DHCP to hand out an IP address dynamically to your laptop. You also have to set the laptop to accept dynamic IP addresses.

If you don't want to do this, you should manually set the laptop's IP address and subnet mask. Just see what the IP is on for your desktop and its subnet mask and copy them into the laptop, except you should increment the last node of the IP by 1 digit so the aren't the same on the laptop and desktop.
