I'm not a MAC owner, but I have installed 2 of them recently. The first one a couple of months ago, no problem. The second one is runnning OSX 10.4.4. I connected it to the network and it would not pickup an address. I went down to look at the linksys switch and it was going nuts. I unplugged the MAC and it settled down. The switch is pretty old. I upgraded the to the recent rev level, which is from 2004. The network seems to be running better. The people I installed this for would like to share the new color printer that is connected to the MAC with the windows XP machines on the network. Sharing the printer on the MAC easy, but I can't figure out how to change the workgroup name to make it part of the network. Any help with that would be appreciated. I was really impressed by the new IMAC's, what a really great machine being a windows and cisco tech for all these years.

Hi Deca,
Can you give us some more info; Like your Network Prefs settings on the Mac, your Sharing panel settings, printer model, USB/Ethernet etc.
Sounds kinda like it's set for Manual IP and it's having an addressing conflict. Sounds like you're a pro though, so unlikely.
How's your Firewall on the Mac configured? is it on?

I run 10.4.4 and share a USB/Ethernet HP Laser with a Windows box or two.
10.4.4 has "just worked" for me. Easy.

Give us more to work with, OK.

The MAC is on the network with ethernet and the printer is connected via usb. The printer is an HP laserjet 2500. Setting the sharing for that was just check the box. The DHCP is working. My biggest issue is trying to figure out where to change the workgroup name. I did not know MAC had a built in firewall. Some the things you are looking for seem either to be right in front of you or your hunting to try to find it. Thanks for any navigational help you can give.
