I am a relatively newcomer to the mac and need some help to get a home network started. I have a powermac G4 dual 866 mdd with a cable broadband connected. I also have an older pc 300 megahertz laptop that I want to wirelessly connect to the powermac so that I can share my broadband connection. I realize that this is a relatively simple thing for most people, but for me its a biggie. Can someone point me to a tutorial on the web or give me point by point directions on how to accomplish this. Thanks so much G.E.

I thought this was a place to get help. Where are all the great posters? I need some help here. Many of my wintel friends told me if I got a mac there would be no one to help with the problems I might encounter. Maybe they are right. Sorry, I'm just in a bind right now.

Well I don't know anything about airport, but you could get a wireless/wired combo router and that would solve everything. Thats the setup I have, it goes cable modem -> router and router -> iMac (wired) || PC Laptop (wireless). Then all you need to do is get a 802.11 NIC that's compatible with the laptop and configure them.

Thanks Mr.K I really appreciate the help. I would like to know what the brand and model number of your set up is. I don't know what you mean by an NIC. My laptop does have usb and pcmcia slots so I guess that would be the way to configure my wireless connection to the wired router? Thanks for the help Mr. K

NIC = Network Interface Card. That's the card that does into the machine to make it work with 802.11 ... in Apple's case it would be Airport, but for your PC it might be any one of a dozen brands.

Thanks I get the picture now. Since my original post I contacted macwarehouse and they recommend a Linksys wireless AP+Cable router with 4 port switch model DEB2998. It is a (b) format. For the pc/laptop they recommended an Orinoco pcmcia card model DEC4136. Does this sound like a decent setup. The cost was around $160.00 including shipping. Thanks for all the help all of you replyers. G.E.
