New iMac would not run Flash MX 2004

I just got my iMac G5 today, transfered all of the applications - ok, lets pause here for a sec: if you ever do that expect some of your applications stop working if you ever renamed your HD. - Ok, back to my problem- so here I am all excited finishing upgrading my OS with the latest security updates; everything seems to be going fine and it's time for me to get down to one of my projects creating a banner for a client; so I double click Flash and it starting up, initializing, building the workspace I can almost see the panels popping up and then BOOOM .. it quits. ::evil::
so I am thinking may be I should re-install it? - nope, did not help, repair permissions? - oh ,yeah let's see; aha sure enough the whole macromedia folder is screwed up, so it is finished repairing and I double click the Flash icon just to see the same problem... ok, back to the disk utility. oh macromedia folder is having problems with permissions again.. hmmm... repair... start Flash... boom.. quit... back to disc utility..ahhh same problem.. how come? it was just repaired??! what a great way to spend a Friday night... so what should I do now? Return the iMac and stick to my good old G4?

Cheryl's idea is a good one. I have found in a case like yours, uninstalling the application completely, and then reinstalling from scratch often solves the problem.

yep, I applied the fix and reinstalled Flash - nothing... Actually, I think the setup assistant messed up my permissions. After I restored the OSX to what it was when I got the iMac and re-installed Flash it finally started working - so no setup assistant for me anymore.

Me, too. But that's rather off-topic. :P

About applications: There are picky ones. And the best bet if an application doesn't run after transporting it to another drive/computer is to simply reinstall it - and maybe even get rid of its preferences...

Sounds like a font issue. Did you install any font's on your machine?
yep, I did. but how come Photoshop, Freehand, and DreamW. did not care for that? And wouldn't the setup assistant transfer my fonts as well?

I've had issues with programs that won't start up and most every time it's a bad font. I can't explain why but it happens, and yes, only in certain apps.

Hmm thats interesting, I'd like to know more about that issue with bad fonts. Twister do you know why they cause some apps not to launch properly?

I have no idea why. Sometimes it's special characters in font names other times it's corrupted fonts. Usually caused by free fonts where people don't create them correctly.... I think. Search around, you'll find a few posts on topics like this. ;)
