Ok so my laptop hard drive was failing so I bought a new one. I made a backup of my old hard disk using carbon copy and it had some errors in the file system so I couldnt do an upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.4 from the Sparse image on the new disk.
So I installed a clean copy of OS X 10.4.3 and updated it. I have the old hard drive still with all the data, and also a Sparse image from Carbon Copy on a USB external HD. I need to copy over either some or all of the applications and one user profile. How can I do this while maintaining the integrity of the symbolic links and getting the apps to work properly?
I only have a 10.4.3 install dvd no OS 9. Do I need to boot into single user mode and copy stuff over and what about permissions or the difference between the 10.3.9 or 10.4.3 OS?
Also can I manually start up the setup assistant like on the first boot from a clean install and copy the user and library settings from the other HD using the Setup Assistant? And if so how do you manually start it again.
