New Powerbook Whiner

I have an old wallstreet 266 and I am ready upgrade, but I have found a small problem with all the powerbook options.

12 inch
Can add DVD-R and Air Port Extreme.
Can add bigger screen for home.
Need to have 1Ghz processor and ethernet.
Would like to have Firewire 800 for the future.
Need PC Card for TypeI/II - I have non USB digital camera.
( This would be my choice if it were 1 Ghz. I want to run Oracle 9i)

15 inch
Would like to have Firewire 800 for the future.
Would like to have Air Port Extreme.

17 inch
Need PC Card TypeI to read my compact flash card from my non USB digital camera. I know I can buy an adapter, but I am paying 3300 for the laptop I shoudn't have to. Apple probably feels that all new cameras are USB now so why not save a buck or two.

I am hoping they will upgrade the 15 inch with Firewire 800 and Airport Extreme. The 17inch is cool but the 15 would be a better fit.

I know I sound like a whiner. I love Macs. I have had one since the Mac + days. I do not mind spending the money but would like to get all the bases covered when I do. The choices presented to me by Apple come up a little short.

I'm almost positive PC Card type X can read every type below it; i.e. PC Card Type II can read Type I. This is because the higher the Type number, the thicker the card is, but the connector doesn't change. Also, I think the WallStreet you have (the model right under mine by the way, isn't it nice?) was the last WallStreet to support Type III cards, but there aren't that many Type IIIs around anyway :).

You're absolutely right, Snowball. The 'types' are actually sizes. Type 1 is the smallest, which can be used in all PC-Card slots. It's Type III we can't use on Macs. (My eMate 300 has a Type III compatible slot, though.) :p

And by the way, I think we'll soon see updates to the 15" line, they're kinda queer right now, unupdated.

I'm sure there's a 15" updated PowerBook sitting at Apple right now with probably everything the 17" PowerBook has but to forego the backlash of November PowerBook purchasers, they will probably hold of its release for several more months.
