Over the last year and especially the last six months I've noticed a huge change in the computer industry. Remember a few years back where every computer maker was putting out 4-6 revision of a product and every one was talking about sub $500 pc in a few years because prices on everything go down once they have been out a while. We'll times are a changing and things are starting to level off and the computer industry is going to start acting like a grown up company. First off within the next year or two we will only see 1 maybe 2 changes within a product line. We will not see 50mhz improvements in clock speed or the addition of a single component. Once or twice a year the products will be refreshed like in the car industry these are 03 models 04 models... maybe and probably more likely 03.5 and and 04 models with 6 month change ups. Secondly, prices will start leveling off and within 8 months to 2 years we will see prices climbing ala the car industry as well as some other industry. This really is an important point in the industry and probably more importantly for Apple so they can finally concentrate and put out world class products everytime, not that they don't already do so. But it's quite ridiculous to spend all there time and money and then try to hit an imaginary time frame on a 100mhz bumped up machine that everyone is guessing when and if it will come out. This way the industry can ramp up production at the appropriate times, and start slashing prices at the appropriate times. New adopters will pay a bit more but will know their computers will be top of the line for at least 2-3 months then prices will come down about 5% where the majority of the public will purchase the product then 30 days before the release of the next model year prices will be cut again for those wanting a great deal. This is a very good thing for the industry as a whole, I know everyone wants to see updates every month but it's not a good thing, really. I would be much happier to know that my computer is going to be top of the line for 6 months maybe longer, and I can deal with that, especialy now a days when most any computer is overkill for 80% of its users. This way the computer manufacturers as well as the chip manufacturers can make major inroads without having to go through these little improvements that most people could give a rats ass about.
