new wife... old permissions

OK, so I'm trying to change some things for when my present girlfriend/future wife moves in. I added her as a user no problem (I could just give her admin privileges, but I think that's more than she wants) . However, I'm having trouble sharing file permissions.

I found instructions on making new groups and did that successfully, so far as I know. It now contains both our user names. But the things I've tried to test it out on haven't worked. If I create a text file with me as the owner but the group changed to the new one, I can't delete it or write changes to it from her account.

The other thing I'm trying to get both of us access to it Quicken. I changed the group on the 'Quicken Data' file to my new group, and I can open it fine, but when I try from her account it gives me some crap about being unable to load Quicken Quotes.

Help would be appreciated by all.

So how much of a geek am I for worrying about this before I worry about wedding plans and all that? Oh well.

I will try moving all of Quicken to the shared folder, that might work. It's not too big a deal because I am not concerned about the physical security of the machine, and no FTP account can get out of its own home directory.

To create the user group I duplicated the staff entry in netinfo and then deleted the users, added that category back with new property, added root, myself and her short names with new value. I have read various reports on the need to restart or just to log in. I haven't restarted out of my uptime vanity, maybe I'll have to.

The other thing I thought of was the location of the files. Since I have an admin account I saved the test .rtf file in the Applications folder and then set the group to the new one I had made. Maybe that's what kept her account from dealing with them properly. I will experiment with that.
