No AAC

I've been waiting months to rip my entire collection of music into AAC format. Is Apple ever going to implement this into iTunes? Maybe someone will know this question, but could an AAC file contain an ID3 tag? I don't see why not. I guess I'll just start encoding everything in mp3 format ... sigh.

AAC stands for advanced audio codec. That's about all I know. I think AAC is the same as MP4 (mpeg 4), or maybe AAC is the codec used to encode MP4 files, kind of like there are different codecs used to encode MP3s ... what's that popular one Frohousier or something like that.

There is a script over on VersionTracker cled "makeminempeg4" which seems to have good reviews. It puts a script into iTunes and does exactly that, rips the CD into AAC format.

The only downside is that you need Quicktime6 Pro to use it.

I did hear that aac can support mp3 style tags, but I have no hard evidence to back that up.

I thought iTunes would be doing that today as well. Additionally I thought today we'd get the iTunes rendezvous sharing that we were promised at MWNY. Damn this long term memory, it only allows me to realize the vaporware isn't showing up. I need to go forget some promises so I can be less disappointed.

Sorry, I'm a little bitter because the things I had hoped for didn't show up today. Some cool stuff that I didn't expect showed up, but what I really wanted didn't.

I think we'll see the iTunes functionality (maybe in Jan 25 there wil be an update to iTunes). Tivo would not announce that their new premium service will let you stream MP3s from your mac via rendevouz if the mac side was not coming...

Have not tried this myself yet. Was just downloading the latest version to take a look sometime.
