No chooser in 9.2.2?

When I try to print from MS Word 98, it says, "Word cannot print. Please select a printer from chooser." I have NO chooser under the Apple menu bar and cannot find it anywhere on my computer, I remember having it with older OS, (8,9). What has happened? Anybody have any ideas? This has frustrated me for months now. I would appreciate any tips. Thanks!

If you're running 9.2.2, then it should still be there. if not, do a search for it using the Find File app.

If you're using Classic under OS X, then Classic should use the printer that is set as default in OS X. OS X basically takes over all of the system-wide functions for any Classic applications running.

Well, you can just take the Chooser from the System folder of the Mac OS 9 installation CD and place it in your Apple Menu folder (in your System folder). Restart Mac OS 9 and it should work fine.

As for why it is missing in the first place... that I don't know. Every installation of Mac OS 9.x.x that I've worked with had a Chooser with it.

Exactly what RacerX has said^^
The Chooser app should be in your OS9 system folder in the Apple menu folder. If it's not there it must of been moved or deleted as this is the default location of that app.

But like RacerX said if not there then just copy it from the OS9 install cd into the above local and put a shortcut to it in your dock or desktop.

Thanks for the tip. I tried to do that with my 9.2.1 update CD, but was unsuccessful in being able to double-click on the INSTALL icon. It simply did nothing... Weird. I did get it to open once and was able to select only the apple menu items (which had the chooser listed) for install, but when I clicked on install it said the install was unsuccessful. Anyone have any other ideas?

Just copy and paste the chooser icon FROM the 9.2.1 install cd TO the apple menu items folder on your HARDRIVE. Simple as that really.
Sounds like your trying to run it from the install cd from what you've said.
I've done it many times and it works a treat ;)

Hope that helps,

Rich
