No email connection

I am using Mac Mail, and when I try to access my emails from comcast an alert pops up saying that the server "mail.comcast.net" refused to allow a connection on port 587. According to this website's instructions: "http://customer.comcast.com/Pages/FAQViewer.aspx?Guid=3aaac773-9491-49a7-b809-2957fc398921", all my account preferences are correct, but it still is not connecting. How can I get my emails??
 
OK. Port 587 is for your SMTP [outgoing mail] server. This is usually a secure port that works when the unsecured Port 25 is blocked. POP3 [incoming mail] servers use Port 110.
