No Internet When Connected to Company's Vpn

I set up a VPN to access the server of the company I work for, using the Internet connection feature that tiger provides, but when I am connected to the server I cant go online to keep my mail running or access any web site. The VPN runs perfectly allowing me to open and read files, etc. but while I am on it I can not get Internet service. When I check the status of the wireless card it tells me that its running perfectly as well as my VPN. What can I do to have them both work simultaneously?
