No signal from Airport Base Station

My 800mhz iMac is having serious troubles with Airport connectivity. It is literally sitting right next to the base station and picks up no signal. My Pismo Powerbook is upstairs and has huge signal. I tried restarting the iMac, base station, changing channels, moving the base around with no change. Do Airport cards go bad over time? My theory is that it's either the card or the antenna in the iMac. Any help would be appreciated.

What kind of basestation is this? Is it one of the graphite ones (first ones that came out) or the snow colored ones?

The graphite ones actually have issues with the caps for the power supply going bad. It's just a matter of desoldering the old caps and replacing them with new ones.

There are tons of sites dedicated to this. I actually did this on a graphite one that I have and it started working immediately. Of course, this is assuming you have some experience with a soldering iron and solder. :D

Here's the site I used to perform the "operation." :p
