Non persistent Internet connection

I've just set up a wireless network at home using a router connected to my asdl socket and an Airport Extreme Base Station connected to the router.

The internet connection is strong and the airport signal is full, however, the internet connection seems to be dropping every once in a while which is a real pain as a lot of my communication is via instant messenger.

The router and base station are new and I haven't tried using the router with wires connected to see if this fixes the problem.

Any ideas? Is this a standard airport problem?

It's not a standard problem in my experience..

I've got Airport Extreme here in Dubai, and also set up in my parents' house in the UK...

While the signal sometimes sometimes waivers by one "bar", it never drops off completely.

I'd suggest you try using the router without the Airport and make sure it's not your internet connection that is screwy!

I think it has something to do with your router. Which one are you using? Maybe there is a new firmware out?
