Not Mac OS X related but...

Did anyone actually purchase an Apple machine with the Apple Loan Care? If you did - I would be greatly appreciated to hear a comment or two about it. Even if you didn't - maybe some opinions. Thanks a bunch!

1st, it doesn't matter whether it is OS X related or not, this is an all purpose mac site, so anything about Apple is accepted :)

2nd, I didn't get a loan with my new iMac, because it would be too expensive :D

My friend bought her Mac using the Apple Loan program as a Univeristy student. She hated the decision because the interest was murder. In the end she would've been able to buy a MUCH higher end machine with all the additional money in interest.

In general buying anything using loans is not a good idea (except for houses, because you can use it as a tax shelter), especially something that depreciates as fast and computers.

Yep... loans are 'bad', 'bad', 'bad', but I have some sprockets I'd sell you, on credit of course. :)

The only thing these days that you really need a loan for is a car and house. Mainly because they are just too expensive. You could save money and find a cheap car, but sometimes you need a car to make money to save, so a loan, however how small, is needed.

But, loans also help you build credit. Stay away from credit cards. I think Apple's loan program was a high interest program, which is something to stay away from. Cars & houses are like around 6-8%, whereas Credit Cards and other programs can be like 18%+.

thanks for the replies, guys! i got approved already with the loan but i'm just going to cancel it. i was thinking of getting an eMac with it so hehe - i guess the best thing to do is just save up. once again, thanks for all your opinions.

I got my PB with an apple loan for students...this would have been the only way I would have been able to afford it. I got the computer, a zip drive, combo printer/scanner, and Virtual PC. I pay around 35 bucks a month...

I wish I would have been able to "save up"...but I'm in med school right now, so having a second job isn't exactly the easiest prospect. I also needed a computer now, and not a few years from now. It all depends on your situation...without the student loan I wouldn't have a computer now, bottom line for me.
