Not sharing printer (Mac to Mac)

Hi all,
I've got an HP Deskjet 3520 connected via USB to an iMac G5 running 10.3.9 -- I'm attempting to share it with an iBook G4 running 10.4.8 which connects wirelessly to my home network on a Linksys router. Until recently, I had no trouble whatsoever in printer sharing: I just went on the iMac into System Preferences -> Sharing and select Printer Sharing. The iBook was able to find the printer no problem, and I had printer drivers of the same version number installed on both machines. Last week, the power went out, and the router was off for a few hours. I had to reconfigure the router a bit (reinput my network name and some other settings) but generally it requires very little tweaking to simply function.
However, once I got the network back up, I can no longer print to the shared printer via the laptop. Printer sharing is still showing as enabled on the iMac, and Appletalk functions for file transfer, etc. (that is, I can mount volumes from the iMac on the iBook via Appletalk) but the iBook cannot find the printer automagically, as it once could. Right now, I've got the bugger jerry-rigged like this: the iMac has a static IP on the home network, and I'm forwarding ports 631 and 515 from the iMac via the router. I've manually added the Deskjet as a generic PostScript printer by sending print data to the iMac's IP. I would like, though, for the automatic shared printer detection to function. Any ideas why it's not?
Thanks ahead of time.

First, port forwarding only works for port requests from outside your router/local network. Unless there is something you haven't told us....

Have you deleted the printer from Printer Setup Utility (both computers) and re-Added? Have you Reset Printing System on OS X 10.4 in Printer Setup?

As for the port forwarding, I was unaware. I simply forwarded the ports from the iMac in case that was somehow preventing the iBook from sending to the printer. The iMac and iBook are on the same network, but the iBook is the only one connecting wirelessly. I have reset the printing system on the iBook, no result. As for deleting and re-adding the printer, I tried that at your suggestion. The iBook still cannot find the printer.

Reconfirm both computers are in the same subnet - that is, the first 3 parts of the IP address are the same, like 192.168.1.5 and 192.168.1.6.

After that, I think we should guess that it's a system software problem. Since the 10.4 iMac seems to be the newer install, I think you should guess that it's the problem. Download the 10.4.8 Combo updater and re-update. If that doesn't help, reinstall OS X using the Archive & Install option in the installer.

Another FYI - appletalk is used for printing to an appletalk printer, but not for file sharing OS X to OS X. AFP = apple filing protocol.
