Not sue if this has been documented before but...

You talking to me!
... I came across a cool (or annoying) feature/bug or whatever you wish to call it with the desktop picture settings.

I have been taking my work Mac home every other weekend to do some iMovie editing (I only have a old Powercentre 150 at home). Anyway I leave my work monitor at work and use my home 17" cheapo monitor. One day at home I changed the desktop picture to a pic of Bjork, when I took the Mac back to work and connected it backup the desktop pic reverted back to the original pic it had before I took it home.

It does this all the time. I wonder if it would remember more than two different monitors pictures.

Anyway as I said this is more than likely old news to most, just think its cool though.

"It's not a bug, it's a feature!" Actually, I think it's quite handy that the Mac gives you different desktops and remembers which desktop goes with which monitor setup. For instance, say you usually use your Mac at home with a picture of your naked girlfriend as your desktop... when you go to work and hook up your PowerBook to a projector, this is a whole new monitor setup, so you can change it to something business-y, and when you get back home, your PowerBook will go "hey, I'm not at work! I can put back the other desktop now!"

in all seriousness, I like this feature. When I hook up my second monitor, my Mac remembers what desktop to put there, and then changes it back. I really like this feature.

I wouldn't risk that one, AdamByte. There is a half-second delay when switching. ;-)

And my iBook uses a different background when I plug it into the TV. Pretty neat, though for a while I had no clue what was going on.

Eh, yeah, I know, I was being silly. Just couldn't come up with a practical application for it besides that.

And well, if I had a girlfriend, and I had naked pictures of her, I still wouldn't use them as my desktop anyway. I'm not that dumb. heheh

Yep it is a feature... Your Mac basically can remember different monitors and TVs all with their resolutions and desktops :D Cool stuff which until now I thought that were known to all Mac users ;)

Yeah thought it was a feature, and I like the cool stuff, which is not always known by all Mac users if they haven't lugged home their Quicksilver G4 before. ;)

Hey hulkaros, do you need to change your sig seeing that IBM make the most important part of the G5? ;D

eric

Eh, I think the quote is okay, because it is referring to IBM's computer's as a whole, not the CPU, which is only PART of the new G5

'Dragging your Quicksilver G4 home'... Of course it's much easier to find this feature if you either have multiple monitors at home or are using a PowerBook or iBook... However, while I had found out this feature myself a while ago, I actually didn't see it mentioned anywhere, AFAICR.
