Hello

I have returned :-) I was a very active member in the days of the great bobw ....

I did a search but I would like to know why occasionally my 1.8 single G5 fully updated 10.4 boots up to a grey screen with a prompt> message says

to either type mac-boot (does not work) or shut-down (does work)

It happened at any stage since I bought it (second user) years ago since panther 10.3.. It even happens after repair and verify is checked.

It gets a lot of use maybe 6 hours a day so am I about to meet thy doom?

I can usually press the power button and boots ok but recently 2-3 times
to get going

I am considering getting more ram and leopard and want to find out whats causing this issue first?

any help is gratefully received

john

Is this the Power Macintosh G5 or the iMac G5? The iMac G5s have a known issue with the power supply and logic board where the capacitors bulge or leak. It's happened twice early this year to my iMac G5.

Apple had a repair extension program for the iMac G5, but it seems that Apple has since taken down the link to it on their website. Still, I would recommend taking it to Apple to get the parts replaced.

The information in this thread should be of help if you have an iMac G5 that's giving you trouble.
