Mac Ninja
JEESUS CHRIST
FINALLY A BROWSER THAT DOESN'T MAKE OS X LOOK LIKE A 486 DX

Let's face it people. Think typical broadband connection to Internet... On any relatively new PC running Windows, msn.com will open in like 1 second. Hotmail will open in 1 second or less. Macosx.com (and all these forum web sites using vbulletin) open in about 1 second. Everything is instant.

On Mac OS X using explorer I've had some pages take up to 15 seconds to load! Opera doesn't help. iCab doesn't help. OmniWeb doesn't help. Maybe they shave off a few seconds, and sometimes explorer is faster, but there is NO BROWSER ON MAC OS X THAT COMES CLOSE TO A PC.

Now there is.

Chimera.

This is insane. OS X finally has some power in web browsing. Jeesus Christ. All Vbulletin forum sites open in 2 - 3 seconds. All of em. MSN.com... 2 or 3 seconds. Hotmail, 2 seconds. Any web page, pretty much 2 - 3 seconds. 4 max. Windows always gets 1 - 2 seconds. Finally OS X is close. No other web browser can TOUCH this shit.

chimera.mozdev.org
Dowload version 0.1.3

So far the only real bugs are:
1) No plug-in support (flash, quicktime, etc.)
2) Sometimes it's hard to click on a form field
3) Javascript is not PERFECT but already better than omniweb.
4) ummm i haven't tried everything but so far so good

ADVANCEMENTS
1) Fast as SHIT
2) Cocoa.. uses sheets for javascript messages and stuff!
3) Has a TAB VIEW for web pages, that is SO COOL!!!
4) Fastest window resize ever
5) Fastest SHIT EVER GET IT NOW!!!

and before you download this amazing brwser, please read
this thread for the reasons you should or shouldn't use it. keep in mind that chimera is a mozilla product.

rofl, we've been talking abou Chimera for a couple weeks now. glad you like it, it's still not ready at all to be a real replacement .. hopefully in a couple months it can go prime-time. glad you like it though!

heheh

Ok seriously
This has NOTHING to do with netscape / AOL

ok sure, Mozilla uses the netscape rendering engine, that's why graphics and HTML usually render perfectly (as we all know, IE and Netscape are the only browsers that consistently render correctly), and thus mozilla renders correctly.

But it's completely done up from scratch

NO AOL in the software. No netscape in the software. It's as good as a brand new app to me.

I don't care if they had to kill 5000 innocent people and girls and puppies to make it. It's ALL ABOUT THE SOFTWARE BEYAAATCH!!

NOTHING touches chimera. Nothing.
(for now, since a few main features don't work, I am using it like 99% of the time, then switching to explorer to use download links or watch quicktime, etc.)

As for the "skins" thing.. all they have to do is make aqua-like buttons and implement quartz in the graphics layer, which they are working on. Chimera will become just like any standard cocoa app... watch....

solrac, for your own good buddy, let Ed slide. You won't win him over and this 2 page thread will quickly escalate into 5 pages on mass confusion that we've actually gone through several times. I'm not being rude or anything, I'm just giving you a headsup. Proceed with caution. ;)

solrac, your brilliancy has swayed me. i will give up all other browsers and worship at Chimera's feet.

obviously you don't understand the progression. Mozilla products don't come from aol/netscape. netscape comes from mozilla. and you can read it right on their site - they develop for the next versions of netscape.

i think the last half of your statement speaks for itself. I am sure the other Chimera users are proud to have you on their side.

Uh oh... I think I've entered into Ed Spruiell's own personal, quiet, jihad...

ok yeah fine mozilla develops for netscape then, not the other way around... that's even BETTER!!! That makes it CERTAIN that there's no netscape / AOL involved in Chimera. (software-wise)

And I don't care if AOL funds them or if frickin' Osama Bin Laden funds them. As long as I get a fast web browser on OS X.

So if AOL funded Apple, and Windows got some help from Jesus, would you switch to Windows? HELL NO! Fuck Jesus, give me a crash proof system beeyyaaaaaaaatch!!!!

Chimera OWNNNNNNNZZZZZZZZZZZZZ JJjoo000o0o000

 :p

LOL and a wow  on that last statement...yikes

*Izzy sits back with a bag of popcorn and a pepsi*

This is gonna be great...round 2 *ding!*

Izzy - I hope you didn't get the jumbo popcorn because in the words of one of the great ones - "Homey don't play dat"

I will not participate in name calling and insults. I would rather discuss this subject with the very intelligent people i have already been doing so with. The link to the thread that contains what i have to say on this matter is sufficient for me. It has been for quite some time. I really just want people to be aware of what they are participating in, not to make them evil or stupid for doing so. That really has always been my only point.

when i get more time i have some things to report and discuss with those who are mature enough to do so.

btw solrac, i may not agree with what you have to say or how you say it, but i do believe in the freedoms that allow you to say it.:)

Obviously, if I wanted to participate in an intelligent mature conversation about this, I would, but of course I don't give a flying FIZUUCKKK who funds who as long as the end product is cool, so I'm just being a little goofy and light-hearted and silly about it.

I'm not like actually TRYING to prove a point here, except to just have a laugh and enjoy the fastest browser I've ever used on a mac.

I'm actually not embarrased to show my PC friends this browser!! It's so great! I'm so happy I found it!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Solrac,

Grow up. Show a little respect and drop the poorly spelled curse words. Also, your discovery *might* be a little more impressive if we hadn't been talking about it in this forum for weeks.

While you may mean to be light hearted and goofy you're coming across as a 15 year old wanna-be in your posts. I don't agree with Ed on this one (I never agree with Ed, he's wrong 99% of the time :) ) but I'm ashamed to have you on my side.

You don't REALLY now what you are talking about, do you???

I'm just repeating what Ed said...

And Vanguard.... pull that stick out of your ass and have some fun.... shit.....

solrac - i think that Ulrik is referring to the fact that netscape employees are some of the main developers for mozilla. It really is a confusing relationship that is expressed in different ways at different times on the mozilla site.

I also feel better now and don't feel i have to take this quite so personally since you are willing to insult members of both sides equally. but frankly name calling and personal attacks aren't fun. It is the very reason the cuss thread has all but bottomed out. There are plenty of ways to joke and poke fun at folks without resorting to cussing. ;)

Ahh, I think the problem is that on the boards, you can't derive tone of voice, facial expressions, reactions, gestures....

while I may read it as having fun and :D and :p someone else may read it as  and :( and then get all  and , and yes, in general cussing is not professional, but I treat the boards as friends hanging out. No one should feel they have to defend themselves from attacks in here. Just joking around.

But seriously... in terms of software, I download a program. If it works great, I talk about it and recommend it. I NEVER EVER EVER NEVER research the history of the developers or their personal convictions or who funded them. When it comes to software, all that matters to me is the software and what it does.

Same with music. A lot of people stopped listening to Metallica and now "hate Metallica" because Lars Ulrich (the drummer) came off as such an asshole when talking about Napster. Well I couldn't care less if he chopped up his mother into little pieces and got caught and composed all the music from death row. I'd still listen to it. It's great music. All I care about is the music, not what the artists have done in their lives or how they think, or what record labels have funded them, or anything.

Sure I'll join the fight against evil monopolies and evil AOL and evil record labels doing un-creative and beaurocratic and anti-musical shit.... but if a certain software program or a certain musician prospered from something evil, but the software or the music is great, I'll listen to it!! And I'll love it. Doesn't mean I'll pay for the software or the music though!!!

I help people every chance I get. But if I see an opportunity to help myself I will do so, as long as it doesn't hurt others. And me prospering x58703458347509387540 by using Chimera certainly doesn't hurt anyone. If you can prove me wrong I'll look it into it!!

Yes, it's definately fast, I'm in it right now, but it's lacking the features. I'll use it for browsing forums though maybe :)
