OK, dumb noob question time

I have the Sturmovik IL2 1946 flight simulator on a PC. I have made quite a few videos with it and really enjoy this sim.

My question is, would there be a way to play this on an 2.6 GHz iMac in other than Boot Camp with Win XP installed? I would love to be able to do this without resorting to befouling my pristine iMac with XP. LOL

I also have another Windows flight sim (MicroFlight 5.0) that I like pretty well and it would be nice to also retain this one, if possible.

I know about the Mac OSX flight sims and plan to try them but the IL2 is pretty much the king of the combat sims.

Those all require Windows XP, so no, you can't run them without XP. There's Cider porting, but if you have a license for XP, why not simply install it via BootCamp?

Ah well, I was just hoping. There has been so much progress in Macs the last six years, I thought maybe with the dual-core systems, well, you get the idea. What would be even more cool is if you could install the Mac OS on any Intel machine.

The problem is, there is so much prejudice on both sides of the OS divide that too many people want to belive the old wive's tales. Like "The Mac may be OK for graphics, but not for anything else." I still hear that. Of course, those people seem to be unaware that it's all crunching 1's and 0's no matter what you are doing. Anything that's good at one can be good at others if you have the right software, memory, etc.

Erh... Now you're mixing things up completely... "dual-core" systems are about two cores of processors on one die, essentially it's a dual processor on one chip. This has *NOTHING WHATSOEVER* to do with running two operating systems. And then you jump to running OS X on a PC. Why? You've _got_ a Mac, right?

Nope, I am not mixed up at all. I am well aware of what dual-core means. In fact, I used to work for a company that built the machines that make the chips via PECVD (Plasma_Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) processes.

Be assured, I do know the difference between hardware, software then Operating Systems, Applications, and Documents. I have even written a book for computer beginners and that was one of the first things I felt it was helpful to explain.

What I said was, it would be cool if the Mac OS could be installed on any Intel machine so anyone could compare how well OSX works compared to Windws, especially Vista. LOL. Although that would be rather too easy.

No, I do not yet have the iMac. It is on order and should arrive sometime next week. But I am at the mercy of the Brazilian postal system, never a marvel of speed and efficiency. To be fair, they do deliver eventually, but no work is ever done on or near a holiday or a major futebol game. I understand that there has been a holiday or two recently, so I expect some delay.
