after the upgrade i saw someone mention that the old 1,8 model had somewhat more features to it than the new one. guess it has some thing to do with crippling the lowest model abit, but is it really right? i heard ppl mention pci and pci-x as a difference..

all in all; should a get a new 1.8 or an old one if a can find one??

[edit;] and btw; wasn't the old ones configured to take up to 8GB's of ram instead of 4??

a.

The new dual 1.8 G5 is just a 1.6 with 2 1.8 processors. And yes, the old one had 8gb of RAM, and new only 4. The 2.0 Ghz is the same price as the old 1.8 dual.

ok, so what you're saying is that old 1.8's where better than the new ones or what? if i can get an old one for the price of a 1.6, wouldn't that be better than a new 1.8?

could someone give me a link or post the specs of old and new g5's, so its possible to compare.

i'm just considering this 'cus i know my local apple-reatailer has got to empty their stock of the old machines, and maybe its possible to make a good deal now that the apple-store has lowered their prices(read; kept their prices, but bumoed the specs of each individual price-range - hence the old 1.8 for old 1.6-price comparison)

The old one would be better, as the new one has only 4gb max, no PCI-X, however does have the 8x DVD-R
