I bought a Macbook 1.1, last October:
Intel Core Duo, 2GB Ram - its a great machine but I'm really, really tempted by the latest Macbook Pro's - love the new screens.

Now if I got a macbook pro, 2.4 GHz, 4GB ram + 7200rpm harddrive would I notice quite a leap in speed ????

Basically I'm feeling guilty about buying a my laptop in under a year and I need someone to encourage me and convince me I'm not mad.

Cheers,

M

You would probably notice a leap in speed only because of the more beefier dedicated NVIDIA chipset as well as the extra supported memory. Also, the improved Santa Rosa chipset (which is also available on the current MacBooks) does help.

However, it all depends on what you're going to do with it. If you're just doing everyday things (IM, e-mail, web, casual gaming), then you should be just fine with the MacBook. However, if you need the bigger screen and are doing something that requires the extra power of the MBP (like video or music production or high end gaming), then I would go with the MBP. But otherwise, the MacBook should be more than enough for everyday use.

the bigger screen is a real draw - I tend to be moving data around from several apps and at the moment my screen feels abit crowded.

I don't run any really intensive graphics apps.

am very tempted

So would you go for t he 17" screen, because then you can spend 100 bucks extra for the hi-def screen.

the 17" is just that bit too big for lugging around all day - plus I'm taken with the whole LED thing
