old school imac monitor problem

i have recently been given one of those old-school pink imacs. manly. anyway, the monitor is dead. i havent thoroughly examined it as of yet but my hunch is that it is not fixable by me.

two things...

has anyone heard of some common problems with monitors going out that i might be able to check some resources?

how hard/easy/possible is it to hook such a machine up to just a regular crt monitor?

Assuming that you have a VGA output on the iMac, then you just plug it in. Otherwise I don't think this is possible.
If you can connect an external monitor, try updating the Firmware. This sometimes fixes problems like the one you described.

well, i did a little googling and i found out that i needed to upgrade the firmware for this little imac. i am proud to say that i am now confidently running os x and loving it!
