Only one resolution

Hi there, I'm currently only able to choose one resolution: 1280x768, so the display, font etc is wrong on the screen.

I'm running OSX 10.4.11 on a G4. The problem began after I tried installing Adobe Flash Player - I wasn't sure which version of the software to install so I tried both the Mac Intel and Mac PowerPC versions. It still didn't seem to work (I was trying to watch the football online) so I tried rebooting the computer. When it restarted, the font size and colours on the screen had all changed, there were now visible horizintal lines across the screen too. The resolution had changed, but I had only one resolution option in System Preferences - Display: 1280 x 768. I've tried re-starting the computer a number of times but it's still correct. My computer says I'm still on the 10.4.11 operating system.

My DVD Player hasn't worked for the last couple of years so perhaps it's linked to this. However, my uncle worked out that the DVD Player worked once I closed a few processses - I'd been advised to buy more memory which I was going to do soon. I don't know if this is related to the current resolution problem at all.

I've tried repairing using the start-up disk, but no change.

Any advice on this would be hugely appreciated, many thanks
