open dialog box lacks.

PowermacG4_450

OS X Jaguar
many mac users said the "old" version of the open dialog box was confusing. I had NO problem with it, and disagree.

In fact, in osX, it's worse imho.

for example, I would open it from an app, say, word X, and I would want to browse the contents of my 2 hard drives (one with X, one with 9)...

problem is, neither drive shows up in this dialog! :(

the fix?

in my home directory, I put an alias of both drives, so.... now, they show up in the open dialog box.

How did apple miss this feature? or, did they leave it out on purpose. ???

The HD's should all be at the beginning of the long list. Use the bottom scrollbar to go all the way to the left.

Yeah, many people have fallen into the trap of thinking X's UI is 9's with a bunch of frilly crap added/changed. The Open/Save dialogs are now modelled after the column view, and if you aren't familiar with it, it will confuse you at first.

Heck, I wonder what type of problems people are getting with the changes in XP :D

Don't even get myy STARTED on XP. It's just confusing and it doesn't have that nice Quartz engine. The graphics aren't Antialiased. I had to use it yesterday and today and it's just completely different.

Where OS X's huge shiny graphics are functional, XP's are there just for "fun".
