open new Finder window in... what ?

Well, in the Finder prefs there is an option where you can specify new Finder windows to always open in column view. Since my preferred view is column view, I chose that option...
This, however, doesn't seem to interest the Finder in the least. When, e.g. I use Spring Loaded folder, it opens in list view and the next time in icon view... Is there any way to make the Finder consistently open in column view ?
This random opening something really s**** a**.
Any help greatly appreciated
 
that option you checked, i think, is for when you hit apple N. I'm eager to find a way to make everything open in column view also.
