opening files from windows/mac volume

i have new macs (G4) with system x.2.4 installed. When i try to copy or open a file (usually an .eps file, but same thing happens with other file format) from a shared directory on a windows 2000 server the time needed for the operation is very high (about 4 minutes for 95 MB against 1 minutes using system 9.2 for the same file).
Could anyone help me ???

i think the transfer speed with SMB is something addressed in one of apple's knowledge base articles. check there, i'm to lazy to find a link tonight, sorry :)
